Best Fabric for Summer: Our Recommendations

As we approach the summer season, the discomfort from the heat becomes a significant concern for Orthodox clergy. Selecting the right fabric for your vestments can greatly alleviate these discomforts.
Due to inquiries about suitable summer fabrics, we have decided to revisit our top recommendation before the warm weather fully sets in.
Optimal Summer Fabric: Viscose/Linen Blend (Rayon Viscose)
From our extensive experience and positive customer feedback, a Viscose/Linen blend (or Rayon Viscose) stands out as the superior choice for summer vestments.
Its composition includes 59% polyester, 32% viscose, and 9% linen, offering a balanced mix of synthetic and natural fibers. This fabric not only mimics the aesthetic of natural linen but also enhances practicality for daily wear.
Fabric Properties:
Semi-synthetic: Combines the best attributes of synthetic and natural fibers.
Appearance: Resembles natural linen, providing a classic look with added durability.
Maintenance: Low shrinkage, wrinkle-resistant compared to pure linen.
Please see the table below for more information on fabrics.
Advantages of Rayon Viscose:
✅ Light-colored fabric helps in reflecting sunlight and keeping the wearer cooler, which is particularly beneficial during sunny days;
✅ Breathable, making it ideal for hot climates;
✅ Durable and sturdy for regular use;
✅ Cost-effective and always available from our local supplier.
Our workshop confidently utilizes Rayon Viscose for an array of items, from cassocks to intricate priestly vestments, mitres, scufias, and even chalice covers and veils.
Here are some reviews from our customers:
I was pleased to receive this priestly vestment late last year from St. Elisabeth Convent. Their work and service has always been impeccable. The fabric is exactly what I was hoping to receive: a light blend of linen and rayon viscose fabric that makes it light and breathable, perfect for summer and those days when the Church is a bit warm inside. My bishop even said he was rather delighted with the quality of the vestment and that he wished he had something like this when he was a priest.
I have ordered a second vestment with the same fabric for lighter summer wear, but in a different color combination. I recommend this priestly vestment to other priests looking for summer-weight fabrics.

The sticharion is single layer fabric making for a nice light set of vestments for warmer seasons. The fabric has a linen like feel and is off white with some of the fabric grain visible giving the set a very earthy feel and look. Embroidery on the sticharion, orarion and cuffs are beautifully done. The overall quality of the materials and craftsmanship is exquisite

Yesterday I wore my new vestments. Wonderful - especially because it was a hot day and this set is not lined so much cooler. Fits very well and looks beautiful.
Versatility in Use: It's possible to order complete sets that include a cassock, waistcoat, vestments, mitre, and matching chalice cover/veil for a cohesive and elegant look.
Considerations: While there are many advantages, it's important to note some limitations:
Light colors may not be suitable in all local Churches, such as Serbian or Greek traditions
Light fabrics might show stains more visibly
