Icons painted with acrylic paints in the icon painting studio of St Elisabeth Convent.

The icon painting workshop of St Elisabeth Convent...

was established in 1999. Currently there are twenty-five people working here, both the nuns and lay people.

The icon painters paint using acrylic and oil paints; plaques, pearls, and framed stones for decoration of halos. Our icon painters strictly adhere to the ancient technology: icons are painted on well-dried planks covered with natural gesso. The backgrounds are covered with high-quality gold leaf.

Icons painted with acrylic paints are less prone to exterior damage. Acrylic paints have good covering power and are easy to work with. They may be transparent when you need it. They dry up quickly and stick to the surface very well, which is why they are used for restoration of icons and frescoes.

Acrylic paint forms long and tight polymeric chains in the process of polymerizing, which explains its long lifespan.

Any Orthodox icon - from a tiny namesake icon to a big church icon - may be painted according to your request. You can order any icon in our icon painting workshop, either by giving us your own specimen, or by choosing an icon from our archives, some of which are presented in this catalogue (family icons, wedding icons, namesake icons, measure icons, church icons, etc.)

Icons may also be placed in kiots.

Please note that the final prices of the Icons painted with acrylic paints in our catalogue may be different from the quoted ones, depending on your location and method of delivery. We will contact you after you place an order confirming your order and specifying its final cost.
