Icon of the Mother of God: “The Champion Leader” is painted with tempera paints in the icon-painting studio of St. Elisabeth Convent.

Based on the iconography of the Czestochowa icon, it features the characteristic scar on the Virgin’s cheek. What distinguishes this icon is her armor: a chainmail coat and helmet reminiscent of the protective clothing worn by Rus’ warriors of early medieval times. The inscription reads: “Stand for Christ even unto martyrdom,” urging the faithful to remain steadfast in God’s service.

All inscriptions on this icon can be made in any language.

Materials

This icon is painted using the following materials: acrylic paints; lime, pine, or alder board; gesso; colored wax; gold leaf; linseed oil; hide glue; varnishes (mordant, kauri gum, acryl-styrolic).

Size: 30x41 cm - 11.8x16.1 inches.
