The Greek word "aggelos" (meaning "messenger") is where the word "angel" originates. Angels were created to serve as God's messengers, conveying important ideas to people. Certain Angels—designated by the prefix "arch-"—have more distinguished ministries than others. The Hebrew meaning of Archangel Michael's name is "He who is like God".
Archangel Michael is referred to as "the Prince" and "the leader of the Lord's host" in the Bible. He is portrayed as the commander of the battle against injustice and the devil in the human world. A senior military leader or chief, Archangel Michael is also referred to as "Archistratigus" in the tradition of the Church.
Several places in the Bible describe the appearance of the Archangel Michael during significant historical moments when God's people were going through trying times. For example, Archangel Michael gave Joshua advice and direction as he was getting ready for a crucial battle at Jericho.

Materials
This icon is painted using the following materials:
tempera paints, lime, alder, or pine board, gesso, colored wax, gold leaf, linseed oil, hide glue, varnishes (mordant, kauri gum, acryl-styrolic).
Size
The smallest Archangel Michael icon (7.5×10 cm) is created without a hand-carved rectangular central panel and shoulder-long.
Decorations
This icon has a hand-carved rectangular central panel covered with various shades of gold. The halo is decorated with chiseling on gesso. This icon can be additionally adorned with wrought silver, a metal or textile oklad, precious and semiprecious gemstones. We recommend placing this icon in an opening or a non-opening icon case to protect it from humidity fluctuations and dust.

The cost of this icon and the time it will take to make it are negotiable, depending on its size and the complexity of its design. Once it is ready, the icon will be consecrated in St Elisabeth Convent.
