Description

The Apostle Mark was also known as "Mark the Evangelist" and an "Apostle of the Seventy". Unlike the evangelists who walked directly with Jesus, Mark wrote his Gospel from the narratives of the Apostle Peter, whose companion he was.
 
Mark's Gospel contains a single episode where he might be glimpsed. In the midst of Jesus' arrest, a young man clad only in linen was following Him. The soldiers caught the young man, but he fled the scene leaving his garment behind (Mark 14:51-52). In this episode, found only in Mark's Gospel, the young man's attire suggests that he had hastily emerged amidst the commotion of the crowd, likely from the nearby house to which the garden was attached.
 
The Book of Acts also reveals that his mother, Mary, offered refuge to Peter as he was looking for refuge after his miraculous escape from prison with the aid of an angel.

Commemorated on January 17, May 8, October 10, and November 12.

This icon is painted using the following materials:

    • Gesso
    • Colored wax
    • Gold leaf
    • Linseed oil
    • Hide glue
    • Varnishes (mordant, kauri gum, acryl-styrolic)

    • 7.5×10 cm (without a hand-carved rectangular central panel, shoulder-long)

    • 40×52 cm

 

Decorations

This icon has a hand-carved rectangular central panel covered with various shades of gold. The halo is decorated with chiseling on gesso. This icon can be additionally adorned with wrought silver, a metal or textile oklad, precious and semiprecious gemstones. We recommend placing this icon in an opening or a non-opening icon case to protect it from humidity fluctuations and dust.

Price & Deadlines

The cost of the icon of Holy Apostle Mark and the time it will take to make it are negotiable, depending on its size and the complexity of its design. Once it is ready, the icon will be consecrated in St Elisabeth Convent.
