Description
Saint Stephen, the Protomartyr, is highly revered in the Church as the first Christian martyr for Jesus Christ.
Following the Pentecost, as the early Church rapidly grew, the apostles established the diaconate to assist with the care of widows, orphans and the newly baptised. Among the seven chosen deacons, the young Saint Stephen, renowned for his eloquence and impactful preaching, rose as the archdeacon, or head deacon.
His captivating sermons and ability to confound Jewish scholars in theological debates won him widespread recognition. Miracles and omens often occurred during his sermons.
These successes, however, also fueled animosity from certain Jewish groups who ultimately orchestrated his persecution. In the year 34 AD, Saint Stephen was falsely accused of blasphemy and condemned to death by stoning.
The persecutor of Christians, Saul, who later became the Apostle Paul, was present at his execution. Saint Stephen held the garments of those who stoned him.
Commemorated on January 9, August 15 (translation of his holy relics).

Decorations
This icon has a hand-carved rectangular central panel covered with various shades of gold. The halo is decorated with chiseling on gesso. This icon can be additionally adorned with wrought silver, a metal or textile oklad, precious and semiprecious gemstones. We recommend placing this icon in an opening or a non-opening icon case to protect it from humidity fluctuations and dust.

The cost of this icon and the time it will take to make it are negotiable, depending on its size and the complexity of its design. Once it is ready, the icon will be consecrated in St Elisabeth Convent.
