This icon of saint Veronica holding the veil with the image of Christ not-made-by-hands is painted with egg-tempera paints by hand in icon-painting studio of St Elisabeth Convent.

St Veronica wiped the Savior's face with her veil as He carried His Cross to Golgotha, according to Roman Catholics. The veil (cloth with the image) is called "Veronica".

The icon is decorated with semi-precious stones and graved ornaments.

Materials

Natural wooden board (lime, pine, alder) with oak splines
Сloth from low-count fabric (linen, canvas)
Gesso
Tempera paints (ground minerals, precious and semiprecious stones mixed with egg yolk)
Gold leaf of various hues
Tinted wax
Linseed oil
Hide glue
Varnishes (mordant, kauri gum, acryl-styrolic)

Decorations

This icon has a hand-carved rectangular central panel. Various shades of gold are used to decorate some parts of the icon.

This icon can be additionally adorned with wrought silver, a metal or textile oklad, precious and semiprecious gemstones. We recommend placing this icon in an opening or a non-opening icon case.
