A hand-painted icon of Saint Patrick.
 
The name St. Patrick is usually associated with Ireland. Actually, he was born in the north of England in 389 into the family of a prominent Briton by the name of Calpurnius. At birth, he was given the Celtic name Succat, and he was baptised with the name Magon.
 
When Irish pirates stormed Calpurnius' villa in 405 they abducted Magon and sold him into slavery. Patrick (Patricius), "the honourable man," was the derisive moniker given to him by the Irish tribal chief who held him as a slave.
 
Before he managed to flee to Gaul on a boat, Patrick spent six years as a slave. He joined St. Herman's discipleship there. Once a bishop, St. Patrick returned to Ireland in 432.
 
The tradition holds that Patrick picked a shamrock plant that grew beneath his feet while he was preaching about the Triune God. He raised it above his head to explain the Holy Trinity to the Irish people.
 
He preached the gospel and brought many people over to Christianity in the course of the following sixty years.

Materials

This icon is painted using the following materials:

tempera paints, lime, alder, or pine board, gesso, colored wax, gold leaf, linseed oil, hide glue, varnishes (mordant, kauri gum, acryl-styrolic).

Size

The smallest icon of Saint Patrick (7.5×10 cm) is created without a hand-carved rectangular central panel and shoulder-long.

Decorations

This icon has a hand-carved rectangular central panel. Various shades of gold are used to decorate some parts of this icon.

This icon can be additionally adorned with wrought silver, a metal or textile oklad, precious and semiprecious gemstones.

We recommend placing this icon in an opening or a non-opening icon case.
