Description

Believers turn to the icon, "Seeker of the Lost," in difficult times, and the Most Holy Virgin grants deliverance to those on the brink—both in a worldly and spiritual sense.

These images, which became known in the eighteenth century, depict the Christ Child standing on His Mother's knees, or, less commonly, on a raised platform. The head of the Most Pure Virgin Mary may be covered with the traditional maphorion, or her hair may be uncovered. Usually, this is a half-length icon, but there are also images where the Most Holy Theotokos is depicted full-length.

The feast day is 18 February.

Natural wooden board (lime, pine, alder) with oak splines
cloth from low-count fabric (linen, canvas)
gesso
tempera paints
gold leaf of various hues
tinted wax
linseed oil
hide glue
varnishes (mordant, kauri gum, acryl-styrolic).

Decorations

Decorated with gold-plating of the background, the margins and the halo.

The icon may also be decorated with a thin metal sheet with wrought ornaments or an oklad made from tin foil.

The icon may also be placed into an icon case made of oak or birchwood.

The price and the time it will take to paint such an icon are negotiated in advance and depend on its size, complexity, decorations, and gold content.
