The icon of the Theotokos of Tenderness is of the Eleusa (Endearment) type. It portrays the Mother of God at half-length, her cheek touching her son's cheek. Christ strokes her face with one hand and holds out a scroll with divine law in the other. The image leaves an impression of tenderness and endearment and gives us an appreciation of the immensity of God's love for His creations. 
 
Commemorated on August 10.

Materials

This icon is painted using the following materials:

  • Tempera paints
  • Lime, alder, or pine board
  • Gesso
  • Colored wax
  • Gold leaf
  • Linseed oil
  • Hide glue
  • Varnishes (mordant, kauri gum, acryl-styrolic)

This icon of the Mother of God is available in several sizes:

  • 16.5×21.5 cm
  • 19×25 cm
  • 23.5×31 cm
  • 27×35 cm
  • 30×41 cm
  • 40×52 cm

Decorations

This icon has a hand-carved rectangular central panel. Some elements of the icon are painted with various shades of gold. The background is white gold. This icon can be additionally adorned with wrought silver, a metal or textile oklad, precious and semiprecious gemstones, chiseling on gesso and gold-painting. We suggest placing this icon in an opening or a non-opening icon case immediately.

Price & Deadlines

The cost of this icon and the time it will take to make it are negotiable, depending on its size, decorations, the complexity of its composition, gold-plating. Once it is ready, the icon will be consecrated in St Elisabeth Convent.
