About St. Elizabeth the New Martyr (Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna, 1864–1918)
The Holy Royal Martyr Saint Elisabeth (Elizabeth) Fedorovna Romanov is our patron saint. In the example of her life, we find inspiration for our ministry, our service to God and the neighbor.
Born a German princess (Elisabeth von Hessen und bei Rhein) and raised Protestant, she married Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich of Russia and later converted to Orthodoxy. After her husband was assassinated in 1905, she withdrew from court life, sold her jewels, and founded the Martha and Mary Convent of Mercy in Moscow, dedicating herself to caring for the poor, sick, and orphaned.
During the Russian Revolution, she refused offers to flee the country. In 1918, Bolshevik authorities arrested her along with other members of the imperial family. She was thrown alive into a mineshaft near Alapaevsk and left to die; witnesses reported she could be heard singing hymns even after the fall. She was canonized as a martyr by the Russian Orthodox Church, and is commemorated on July 18.
She's remembered for her transformation from imperial nobility to a life of radical humility and service — which is exactly the spirit St Elisabeth Convent's ministry draws its name and inspiration from.

Decorations
This icon has a hand-carved rectangular central panel. Decorated with gold-plating of the halo, the background and the margins of the icon.
The icon can be additionally adorned with wrought silver, a metal icon riza (oklad), or a textile riza, precious and semiprecious gemstones. We recommend putting this icon into an opening or a non-opening icon case (kiot) to protect it from humidity fluctuations and dust.
