Saint Theodore appeared to Archbishop Eudoxios in a dream to inform all the Christians that no one should buy anything in the marketplaces, but to eat boiled wheat with honey (kolyva) instead. Emperor Julian the Apostate, planned to commit an outrage upon the Christians during the first week of Great Lent. He ordered the city magistrate of Constantinople to sprinkle all the food in the marketplaces with blood which had been offered to idols.

In remembrance of this event, the Orthodox Church annually celebrates the feast of the Holy Great Martyr Theodore Tyrone on Saturday of the first week of Lent. On the eve of Saturday, Friday, at the Divine Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts, the kolivo is blessed and distributed to the faithful.

Lime, pine, or alder board
Gesso
Colored wax
Gold leaf
Linseed oil
Hide glue
Varnishes (mordant, kauri gum, acryl-styrolic)

Decorations

This icon has a hand-carved rectangular central panel. Decorated with gold-plating of the background, the margins, the halo, and other elements; chiselling on gesso.

It can be additionally adorned with wrought silver, a metal or a textile oklad, precious and semiprecious gemstones. We recommend putting this icon into an opening or a non-opening icon case.

The final price of the icon of Saint Theodore and the time it will take to paint it depend on its size and the complexity of its decoration.

Once this icon is painted, it will be consecrated in St Elisabeth Convent.
