028-XC Lord Emmanuel
Starting at $3.00
This lacquered icon Lord Emmanuel is made in St Elisabeth Convent.
An image printed on paper is firmly glued to a wooden board and covered with an extra layer of transparent lacquer.
This unusual icon shows Jesus not during the period of his public ministry, when He was 30-33 years old, but as an adolescent. This icon originated in the VI-VII centuries in response to the heresy of Nestorius who said that Jesus wasn't divine before He started his public ministry. The iconography of Jesus as an adolescent has a lot in common with the image of Christ the Pantocrator. The young Jesus wears a cloak and a tunic of the same blue and red colors. In contrast with the Nestorian heresy, the young Jesus on the icon has a halo around his head, which symbolizes his holiness. There is a cross inside the halo as a symbol of the passions and the Resurrection of Christ. The inscription on the icon reads in Church Slavonic "Jesus Christ Emmanuel". The name Emmanuel means God with us and is mentioned in the Old Testament prophecy of Isaiah about the nativity of Jesus
The icon Lord Emmanuel is available in several sizes.
