St Mary Magdalene Icon (from semi-precious stones)

Handmade St Mary Magdalene icon from finely ground semiprecious stones.

Saint Mary was born in Magdala and is thus known as Mary Magdalene. The Holy Gospels recount that she was delivered from demonic possession by the grace of Christ, who healed her completely. Filled with profound gratitude and love for the Lord, Saint Mary forsook the world to follow Him with unwavering devotion. She remained by His side not only during times of public ministry and glory but also during His humiliation, crucifixion, burial, Resurrection, and Ascension.

Saint Mary Magdalene holds a unique place in history as the first witness to the risen Christ. She was also the first to proclaim the glorious news to the disciples: "Christ is Risen!" For this reason, the Church venerates her as equal to the Apostles.

Along with other disciples of Christ, she journeyed to Rome to spread the Gospel. There, she was able to meet with the Emperor Tiberius.  According to Eastern tradition, she presented him with an egg, proclaiming: "Christ is Risen!" The Emperor scoffed, stating: "The dead cannot rise any more than this egg can turn red." Miraculously, the egg in his hand turned crimson.

In later years, Saint Mary Magdalene travelled to Ephesus, where she faithfully assisted the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian in his ministry. According to Church tradition, she peacefully reposed in the Lord in Ephesus and was laid to rest there.

The Holy Church commemorates Saint Mary Magdalene on 4 August (22 July according to the Old Calendar), and on the Third Sunday of Pascha, along with the other Holy Myrrhbearing Women.
