Description

Apostle Peter was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. He is also known for his strong faith and his denial of Jesus three times before his crucifixion.

Born Simon, son of a fisherman and brother of Saint Andrew, the future Peter lived the simple life of a fisherman. He married and settled in Capernaum, but his world changed forever when Jesus called him from his boat as he was fishing in the Sea of Galilee. Peter, known for his loyalty and zeal, became one of Jesus' closest disciples, alongside James and John.

His passion was evident. He was the first to recognize Jesus as the Messiah, earning the nickname "Rock" (Petros in Greek) for his unwavering faith. Upon this rock, Jesus promised to build His church, one that could withstand even the gates of Hades.

He denied knowing Jesus three times before His crucifixion. The weight of this betrayal was immense, leading to deep repentance. Thankfully, Jesus, ever forgiving, restored Peter to his role, entrusting him with the task of shepherding his flock. Tradition tells us that whenever Peter heard a rooster crow, the memory of his denial would pierce his heart, and he began to weep bitterly.

The Apostle Peter stands tall as a pivotal figure in Christianity's early expansion. Fueled by the Holy Spirit's descent, his fiery sermon ignited the hearts of 3,000, turning them towards Christ in a single day. His second sermon ignited faith in another 5,000 Jews. The impact was not just words, but even his shadow served as a conduit for healing, bringing solace and restoring health to the sick (Acts 5:15).

Feast day on July 12.

  • Lime, pine, or alder board
  • Gesso
  • Colored wax
  • Gold leaf
  • Linseed oil
  • Hide glue
  • Varnishes (mordant, kauri gum, acryl-styrolic)

Saint Peter icon is available in the following size:

  • 30х52 cm

 

Decorations

This icon has a hand-carved central panel. The margins and the halos are covered with gold leaf.

It can be additionally adorned with wrought silver, a metal or a textile oklad, precious and semiprecious gemstones. We recommend putting this icon into an opening or a non-opening icon case.

The final price of Apostle Peter icon and the time it will take to paint it depend on its size and the complexity of its decoration.

Once this icon is painted, it will be consecrated in St Elisabeth Convent.
