015-A St Michael the Archangel
A copy of an icon of St Michael the Archangel painted by Andrei Rublev. Made in the icon workshop of St Elisabeth Convent. A high-quality printed image is glued to a wooden board and covered with protective lacquer. The original icon of St Michael the Archangel was painted by Andrei Rublev in early XV century. Together with an icon of the Holy Savior and an icon of St Paul it is one of the icons of Zvenigorod order that have survived to date. This icon is characterized by subtle and gradual transitions between light and shade, pure and astonishingly well-matching colors. The image of Archangel Michael - the Defender and Archistrategos - is rendered by soft and smooth lines and is filled with meekness and contemplation. The colors of his garments are tender and transparent; the language of color conveys the harmony and purity of the heavenly domain.
