Icon of St. Nectarios painted with natural tempera paints in the icon-painting studio of St Elisabeth Convent.

St. Nectarios, Metropolitan of Pentapolis and Wonderworker of Aegina has founded Monastery on the island of Aegina. Nowadays there is a monastery of Agios (Saint) Nektarios and Agia Triada (The Holy Trinity), which is considered the most important religious monument of Aegina, located not far from the center of Aegina Town.

St. Nectarios was the foremost confessor and spiritual father of the country of Greece at His time.

Feast day: November 9.

Materials

Natural wooden board (lime, pine, alder) with oak splines,
cloth from low-count fabric (linen, canvas),
gesso,
tempera paints (ground minerals, precious and semiprecious stones mixed with egg yolk),
gold leaf of various hues,
tinted wax,
linseed oil,
hide glue,
varnishes (mordant, kauri gum, acryl-styrolic).

Decorations

This icon has a hand-carved rectangular central panel. Decorated with gold-plating of the background, the halo and other elements of the icon, gold-painting on the vestment.

It can be additionally adorned with wrought silver, a metal or a textile oklad, precious and semiprecious gemstones. We recommend putting this icon into an opening or a non-opening icon case.
