IMP-09-13 Icon of the Resurrection of Christ
A handpainted icon of Resurrection of Christ.
In Orthodox Christian Tradition, the icon of Resurrection of Christ depicts His descent into hell in order to save people from sin and death. The gates have been broken on which Christ stands in all His Glory. Adam, Eve, Kings David and Solomon as well as St. John the Baptist surround Him on both sides. The Savior is holding Adam by the hand, since only God can save people from sin. At the same time the person needs to make an effort, which is why Adam is seen reaching out to The Lord.
