Description
Saint Basil the Great was born around 330 in Caesarea, Cappadocia in a pious Christian family. His parents and sister, Macrina, are also venerated as saints, and his grandmother was a disciple of Saint Gregory the Wonderworker, author of the Nicene Creed. This environment nurtured the seeds of faith within him from a young age.
Basil received an exceptional education, supported by his father, a lawyer and eloquent speaker. He studied under local teachers before pursuing further education in Constantinople and Athens. In Athens, he established a lifelong friendship with Gregory the Theologian and became acquainted with the future emperor Julian.
In 370, Basil accepted his ordination as the Archbishop of Caesarea. He made significant contributions to the Church, notably through the development of the Divine Liturgy, which continues to be celebrated in various forms today.
He chose to live in poverty, but still helped those in need. He started shelters, hospitals, and hostels.
Saint Basil the Great reposed on 1 January 379, at age 49. The people of Caesarea deeply mourned his death. He is revered as "the Great" in acknowledgement of his exceptional merits and holy life.
Commemorated on January 14 (January 1 O.S.).

Decorations
This icon has a hand-carved rectangular central panel covered with various shades of gold. The halo is decorated with chiseling on gesso. This icon can be additionally adorned with wrought silver, a metal or textile oklad, precious and semiprecious gemstones. We recommend placing this icon in an opening or a non-opening icon case to protect it from humidity fluctuations and dust.

The cost of this icon and the time it will take to make it are negotiable, depending on its size and the complexity of its design. Once it is ready, the icon will be consecrated in St Elisabeth Convent.
