A painted icon of the Holy Martyrs Unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian.

Commemorated on July 14.

The holy unmercenaries and wonderworkers Cosmas and Damian lived in Rome in the 3ʳᵈ century. Having excelled in the medical field, they treated the ill for free. They suffered martyrdom during the reign of Emperor Aurelius Carinus.  

Materials

This icon is painted using the following materials:

  • Hide glue
  • Varnishes (mordant, kauri gum, acryl-styrolic)

This icon has a hand-carved rectangular central panel. The background, the halo, and the margins are covered with gold leaf. The icon is decorated with chiseling and gemstones.
