018-XC Prayer in Gethsemane
This icon shows Jesus Christ praying in the Garden of Gethsemane. Being fully human, the Savior is terrified by the anticipated passions and death. Jesus goes through the secret and spiritual crucifixion in the Garden of Gethsemane: just as his immaculate body will suffer on Golgotha, his spirit goes through passion in Gethsemane. It is impossible to imagine what Jesus had to go through during his prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. He asked his Father to take this cup from him three times. Christ willingly took all sins of the humankind upon himself, so his suffering and death was incomparably harder than anything else. Nevertheless, He obeyed the will of his Father who had sent him into the world and He expressed his readiness to suffer by saying, "Not as I will but as You will." This Prayer in Gethsemane icon was made in the icon workshop of St Elisabeth Convent. A high-quality image printed on paper was glued to a wooden board and covered with transparent lacquer for extra protection. Available in several sizes.
