048-XC Christ the Pantocrator
This icon of Christ the Pantocrator is a lacquered icon on wood made in St Elisabeth Convent. The image of Pantocrator is the main one in the iconography of Jesus because it represents him as the King of Kings, the ultimate Judge and the Ruler of the world. In an Orthodox icon, each detail and each color has its meaning. Thus, the blue himation symbolizes the divine and the heavenly things; the red tunic means both royal powers and sacrifice. Jesus is shown holding the Gospel in his left hand. The words in the book read, Come unto Me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28). This icon of Christ the Pantocrator comes in several sizes.
