070-XC King of Glory
This icon was made in the lacquered icons workshop of St Elisabeth Convent. A printed image glued to a wooden board and covered with transparent varnish.
This icon is a copy of a late 14th-century icon from the Monastery of Transfiguration in Meteora, Greece. It shows Jesus in the grave, with closed eyes and inclined head. This rare icon is a part of a diptych, i.e. one of a pair of icons, and there is an icon of the Mother of God who grieves over her Son. This diptych was brought in for veneration on Holy Friday. Later, there appeared a tradition in icon painting to combine the two icons, e.g. this icon Do Not Lament For Me, O Mother. You can buy this King of Glory icon in several sizes by specifying the number of icons of each desired size in the corresponding fields.
