The Easter Basket, a novel gift idea and your opportunity for charitable giving

Easter is a time of jubilation. It exists in the crisp air of spring, the warm glow of the sun, the sweet songs of the birds, and, most certainly, in the gifts we exchange with our loved ones and significant others. If you are looking for a less conventional Easter gift idea, here is one: an Easter Basket.

Deeply symbolic and much-enjoyed

In a traditional Easter basket, each item speaks to the significance of the feast and underlines its key messages.

Its centrepiece is the Easter Pascha, a traditional Easter feast cake. With its round shape and a cross at its top, it conveys the biblical idea that Jesus is the bread of life. Red wine symbolizes the Eucharist, and cheese and meat the generosity of Easter. Easter eggs bring the promise of a new life and resurrection, sweets give us a foretaste of eternal life. Horseradish is sometimes added to remind us about the bitterness of Christ's suffering.

Today, Easter baskets are less serious and more fun. Both adults and children like to receive it.

Pack in your loved ones' favourite things, add something special to remind them of their happy childhood years and look forward to some moments of warmth. Children love Easter baskets. You just have to watch their faces when they find out what is inside.

A gift from a warm heart

St. Elizabeth Convent also offers an opportunity to give an Easter basket to an adult or a child with a disability in one of the long-term care facilities in Belarus where we minister. In these institutions, patients have little contact with the outside world and many unmet needs for love and affection. On this special day, you can bring them the joy of Christ's resurrection and show how much He loves them.

Giving an Easter basket is easy. Go to the Easter basket section of our online catalogue, choose the gifts to put in your basket, and one of our sisters to deliver it on her next visit.

We began this charitable project during the Covid epidemic when we could not visit the patients and had to find other ways to stay in touch. The restrictions have since been lifted, but we still deliver the Easter Baskets. Let us deliver yours, jump on board!
