011-XC Image of Christ Not-Made-By-Hands
This image of Christ Not-Made-By-Hands was made in a workshop of St Elisabeth Convent by glueing a printed image onto a wooden board and coated with lacquer. This image of Christ can be traced back to an oral tradition about an image of Christ that was not made by human hands; instead, it was miraculously transferred to to the towel. This is a copy of the Image of Christ Not-Made-By-Hands painted in the first half of the fourteenth century and preserved in Holy Entry of Mother of God into the Temple Church in Rostov. The face of Christ is portrayed in a circular halo laid over a towel with an inscription in Church Slavonic that reads, "Jesus Christ the King of Glory".
