Seeing it displayed in the gallery it draws in the crowd of today’s spectators, and they blend in perfectly with those on the canvas. And I would further state that the lives of the People of the foreground are no different than the lives of those painted by Ivanov. This painting is a true bridge from today to the time of Christ on Earth.
