“Prayer Against The Evil Eye,” for the protection of family, parishioners, friends. The words of the prayer (you might consider looking them up) clearly indicate the pernicious connection to Envy (Jealosy). Envy, with pride, are at the root of black magic. Even if someone doesn’t go that far down a dark oath, it’s still a slippery, dangerous & destructive path..
My spiritual father used to say:
“The Mystic says: ‘Father, THY Will be done!’ The Magician says: MY will be done! ‘ ” He also said that: ” Jealously is like a demon that needs to be torn out of the human heart and burned,” because it was so poisonous to spiritual life and striving, and was especially crippling to community spiritual life and ministry. Selfishness, Envy, Pride, lead to bad ends. We can only overcome these, with God’s Grace and Help, through fervent love of God, prayer, confession, study of Holy Things (including Holy Scripture), frequent Communion, service and striving and seeking to love and help others.
