This is the root of great abuse to left handed creatures ( even animals can have an innate tendency to favor the right or left.).

Of all religious wisdom, the Orthodox Church should have known better. Jesus would not have allowed an apostle to make such a silly decision.

As a child 5 urs old, it was a big deal that I ciossed myself “wrong”. I was only 5 years old away from home for the first time ever by myself over night for a week.

It was an Orthodox Mobistar children’s summer camp. I have just figured out After 55 years what I was doing. I was following the priest!

All the fuss all the anxiety.

Thank you for the explanation, now I know why I bless myself correctly in a Roman Catholic Monastery. When asked why, I said I only follow the sign the priest makes on us.

Both right to left and left to right are good and depends on how one perceives it.
I agree with Jason Rodgers comment. Left to right indicates that through faith in Christ and baptism we move from left (darkness, goats) to right (light, sheep)
Also to do it from right to left to mirror the action of the priest and show preference to the right first is also good.
Let’s unite in Christ and not divide. The enemies of Christ are out there laughing at us.

In reply to Anonymous. Sometimes, but I think it’s more like: Do as I say, not what I do. Each Christian Religion has some parts right & wrong. The point is to Unite in the delight & sacrifice of our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ & to obey & worship Him -alone.

In reply to Jason Rodgers. The agressiveness of the "orthodox" against the latin church is because they are protestants too, it's simple and chrystalline. The protestants themselves chose to follow the renascentists kings and the schimastics had chose the byzantine emperors. Before the "orthodox" we have others following the mundane political powers as the non-calcedodian churchs. Thanks to these protestants, including the "orthodox" and the non-calcedonian too, we are almost ending the christendom on Earth, because the Roman Church has infiltrated by the protestant ideology at least the since the Vatican II too.

Almost all the heresies were born not in the West, but in the East and that fact has a lot of evidences from the Church history. While the Roman Orthodox Church in ancient times has always kept the orthodoxy and helped the Eastern brethren to fight the heresies. Maybe because of that the Orthodox people cross themselve from right to left in order to show that the right side, the East needs to be crossed and healed first and then the left side? I think that both traditions of crossing are generated by Church and are equal. The important thing is the faith in Jesus Christ and constant remembering of His sufferings on the Cross.
