Pentecostals believe that "Speaking in Tongues" is a secret prayer language between them and their god. To get a better understanding of the Charismatic Movement from an Orthodox perspective, and just how profoundly it differs both in ethos, and and dogma from Orthodox Christianity, I would suggest reading the section on the Charismatic Movement in Father Seraphim Rose' book "Orthodoxy and the Religion of the Future" .On would get the impression from the author that Orthodox Christians and Pentecostals don't differ qualitatively on the question, but simply quantitatively. This kind of poor analysis is why the heretical Pentecostal movement took root in some parishes of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.
