Dear sister in Christ (hopefully),
Why do I have to repent if others don’t? Why should I be striving for holiness if others aren’t? Why do I have to be lovingly obedient if others won’t?

“Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?
Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow THOU me.”
(John 21:19-20)
“But continue THOU in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;” (2.Timothy 3:14)
“His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; THOU hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” (Matthew 25:23)

Christ has called us individually to follow Him. How then can we excuse our disobedience with the disobedience of others? Follow thou Christ, not Christians. Do not let the hypocrisy of others discourage you in your own way for another may look at you and then say by himself “And why should I if SHE isn’t!” Don’t keep the commandments the way people do their chores but lovingly be obedient to Christ for He lovingly gave His life that we may live (John 14:15; 1. John 4:19; Romans 5:8; 1.John 2:1-6).

May this be an encouragement to follow Christ for His sake only. Don’t take this as a scolding looking down on you but as a loving brotherly admonishment. May our God bless you.

It seems like a double standard. I told my friends if I go to a monastery I do not want to cover my head since the men clearly aren’t following this verse so why make me?

I’m 15 years of age and have long curly hair, about to my neck/shoulders. Does this mean I have to cuz my hair off completely and keep it short, or can I keep having long curly hair?

Some Eastern Orthodox go to far in condemning other ritual churches who do not follow this practice…when it was never a part of their ancient tradition.
God has made saints with both long hair and no hair! 🙂
