Do we Orthodox have it backwards? Should not the priest be kissing the hand of his parishioners? Our Lord has said, “But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.” [St Matthew 23:11]. Is not the priest the greatest among us? ========================

Among Hungarians, the custom may not have survived as a physical kiss, but the verbal greeting "Kezed Csokolom" ("I kiss your hand') is still spoken as a sign of respect for elders.
